Fresh out of a California hospital, I went to Leucadia beach and walked the beach.
I screamed at the waves,
“HE R**** ME!
THEY DID THAT!”
My Dad, Mom, and sister watched from above.
Dad got into the car.
He left.
He had heard enough.
We never spoke about it again before his death.

This morning, his spirit came down those sandy steps and hugged me.
We didn’t say a word.
Not today either.
*
I’ll keep both memories.
