What’s the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?
Oh fellow human, so many adventurous options. The first that comes to mind was a spontaneous trip to Carlsbad, CA. It was life changing in my 30’s.
When I lived in Phoenix, I met a man online who lived in San Diego county. After months of talking, we liked each other quite a lot and split the cost of meeting. It was an incredible trip.
I’ll spare the intricate details for now. While the dating relationship was short-lived, the fire of desire to live in California remained.
I rented out my house, commuted to work in Phoenix once a month, and moved into a tiny studio in Encinitas.
Living and learning to surf there changed my outlook on life. I grew up mentally and more than just a bit. I helped a lot of people who were homeless.
I faced a lot of fears.
It was also somewhat of an expensive decision. Eventually I sold my Arizona home to support a life in California.
Some thought I was nuts, but not my Grandma. She was fierce too.

The old life and house in AZ had two toilets to clean.
I only have one butt.
And one book.
Birdanity.
My life.
A book that has included wild trips, spontaneous moves, epic falls and wavy failures with some surfboard concussions.
But I rose again. Wavy wild rides are what some butts prefer.
I do, but now, only one toilet to clean.
Too… there’s a private tree outside… or a sink in the kitchen.
Anti-bacterial squirt bottles abound and even bleach, too.
